NOIR RENAISSANCE
FIRE!!
AUGUST 22ND, 5 PM - 10 PM, 181 US - 1 METUCHEN, NJ
The Harlem Renaissance magazine FIRE!! A Quarterly Devoted to the Younger Negro Artists was a publication devoted to providing a place for young black artists to express the taboo subjects of the world. The magazine's title referred to burning up old ideas, and Fire!! challenged the norms of the older Black generation while featuring younger authors. The endeavor was plagued by debt, and its quarters burned down, ending the magazine after just one issue.
FIRE!! Is a show focused on doing the same. Come party with NOIR RENAISSANCE this April to read poetry, look at art, and be immersed in the beauty of black community that has been historically denied.
OPEN CALL IS OPEN
As a Black creative woman, art has become my voice. It is a way to express the complexities of my emotions and experiences. It allows me to celebrate the beauty, strength, and diversity of women, while also capturing the rawness of their struggles and pain. My style often features women of color portrayed through realistic, cartoon-like imagery, using vibrant and exaggerated hues to highlight features that resonate deeply with me.
Through my art, I aim to tell stories that honor the resilience, vulnerability, and individuality of women. Each piece offers a space to explore emotions authentically and meaningfully.
